Vaccines protect your puppy from diseases that are common in India and often fatal, such as parvovirus, distemper and rabies. Here is the usual schedule. Your vet will adjust it to your puppy's age, health and local risks.
In short: first shots at 6–8 weeks, boosters every 3–4 weeks until about 16 weeks, rabies from 12 weeks, then yearly boosters.
The usual vaccine schedule
| Age | Vaccine |
|---|---|
| 6–8 weeks | First combination vaccine (DHPPi + Lepto) |
| 9–12 weeks | Second combination dose |
| 12–16 weeks | Third combination dose + first rabies vaccine |
| Every year | Combination booster + rabies booster |
Important tips
- Keep your puppy off public ground and away from unknown dogs until the full course is done. Parvo virus survives in soil for months.
- Deworm before vaccines, as your vet advises. Worms can weaken the vaccine response.
- Keep the vaccination card safe. You will need it for boarding, travel and grooming.
Normal after a vaccine: a mild fever or sleepiness for a day.
Not normal – go to the vet at once: swelling of the face, vomiting or breathing trouble.
